Barra Reef Activities

In addition to you soaking up the warm sunshine, sunbathing and swimming in the warm seas or pools, there are a number of exciting activities available in the area to take care of the spare hours.

THESE ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:

- Surf & deep sea fishing as well as saltwater fly-fishing

The lodges are all equipped with the appropriate fishing vessels and tackle to ensure a fruitful fishing experience.

- Scuba diving & Snorkelling
All the dive centres are 5 Star Scubapro rated, well equipped to ensure safe diving. Some 14 coral reefs are available for dives or snorkelling, varying in depths between 10 and 30 metres. Opportunities exist for dives with the gigantic manta rays or swimming with whale sharks or dolphins.

- Guided Quad bike tours
Local guides take visitors on guided tours amongst the palm forests. Here you can get to know the Mozambique culture, the many uses of a coconut and enjoy the scenery.

- Horse riding

Enjoy a romantic horse ride along the pristine beach.

- Birding
On account of the mud flats and mangrove swamps all along the peninsula, a large variety of birdlife can be seen and makes for excellent birding. The picture shows the rare Crab Plover (Dromas ardeola).
- Sightseeing trips
These include visits to Inhambane to experience the Afro - Portuguese - Arabic cultures and architecture. We spend time at the museum, historical buildings as well as the Mercado" (town market) for curios, fresh fruits, etc. We also visit quaint local restaurants and bistros to savour the local cuisine. There are drives along the country side to experience the Mozambican culture and topography. Lastly we also do a dhow (arabian sailboat) trip accross the bay to Maxixe or a neighbouring island.
